1. So, I just looked at my followers list…

And most of you guys are not guys.

Yeah. Not sure what else to say…

    More suggested media though!

    Womens Rights in:

Saudi Arabia- “Saudi officials continue to require women to obtain permission from male guardians to conduct their most basic affairs, like traveling or receiving medical care, despite government assertions that no such requirements exist, Human Rights Watch said today. The government made its assertions most recently in June 2009, to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.” http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2009/07/08/saudi-arabia-women-s-rights-promises-broken

Yemen-“The Personal Status Law calls for wife obedience, allows marital rape, reinforces stereotypes about women’s roles as caretakers within the home and severely restricts women’s freedom of movement. The recent remarks made by President Ali Abdullah Saleh condemning women’s participation in public protests as being un-Islamic reflects the secondary status given to Yemeni women.” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/23/opinion/l23yemen.html?_r=1

Oman (For comparison)- “Oman is one of the most advanced countries in the Gulf region as far as women’s rights are concerned, according Dr Nora N. Alnahedh, resident representative (GCC) of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).” http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/oman/oman-regional-pioneer-for-women-s-rights-1.90692

    Human Right Violations:

Palestinian- “Despite the committee’s position, some small independent groups attempted to protest at the Lebanese border. The Lebanese army stopped a group of 20 youths who made it to the border town of Kfar Kila.

Syrian state television reported that 23 Palestinian and Syrian protesters had been killed in the Golan Heights on Sunday, a death toll which Israel disputes.

Yet Navi Pillay, the UN human rights chief, condemned Israeli security forces for their “excessive use of force” in the Golan Heights, saying they have killed as many as 40 demonstrators in the area in recent weeks.” http://english.aljazeera.net/indepth/features/2011/06/201168131013184315.html

And of course, look into these and more by yourself.

EDIT: Just found something on Uganda, some of you may remember the commotion about the bill a while back. It didn’t fail the vote, it wasn’t voted upon. It could be up for vote next month, so get educated! http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2009/10/15/uganda-anti-homosexuality-bill-threatens-liberties-and-human-rights-defenders
